Software-defined / Time-sensitive / Sensing Networking (軟體定義/時間敏感/感測網路)

One critical functionality of IoT/IIoT is huge data aggregation. According to the literature survey, sensor networking is composed of a group of small and powered devices which play the role of collecting data in a wired or wireless networked infrastructure. In order to maintaining this kind of sensor network, two brand-new advanced networking techniques are (1) software-defined networking (SDN) and (2) time-sensitive networking (TSN). First, SDN is one kind of network virtualization. That is, SDN separates the control plane from the data plane. Network switches belonging to the data plane are responsible for packet processing and forwarding. On the other hand, a new SDN controller is proposed to handling the routing and management of flows. Thus, SDN controllers can program managed switches using OpenFlow. Second, TSN is one kind of hardware-supported industrial Ethernet technology and able to provide ultra-low delay and high reliability. Two fundamental TSN standards are (i) 802.1AS which utilizes PTP to achieve nanosecond-level time synchronization and (ii) 802.1Qbv that control flows precisely according to the prioritized time slot allocation. Based on the aforementioned assumption, NESL would focus on (1) the integration with other network protocols, e.g., data distribution service (DDS), and (2) the packet scheduling optimized algorithms.

 

物聯網/工業物聯網的一個關鍵功能是巨量資料匯流。根據文獻調查,感測器網路由一組小型供電設備組成,這些設備在有線或無線網路基礎設施中發揮著收集資料的作用。為了維護此類型之感測器網路,有兩種全新的先進網路技術:(1)軟體定義網路(SDN)和(2)時間敏感網路(TSN)。首先,軟體定義網路(SDN)是一種網路虛擬化技術,也就是說,軟體定義網路(SDN)可將控制平面與資料平面分開。屬於資料平面的網路交換機負責網路封包的處理和轉發;另一方面,提出了一種新的SDN控制器用於路由決策和管理機制,因此,SDN控制器可使用 OpenFlow對受管交換機進行即時編排。其次,時間敏感網路(TSN)是一種硬體支援的工業乙太網技術,能夠提供超低延遲和高可靠性。時間敏感網路(TSN)的兩個基本標準是:(i)利用PTP實現納秒級時間同步的802.1AS;(ii)根據優先時隙分配精確控制流量的802.1Qbv。基於上述假設,本實驗室(NESL)將重點關注(1)與其他網路通訊協定(如數據分發服務(DDS))的整合,以及(2)封包排程最佳化演算法。
