This project presents a low-profile pattern-reconfigurable antenna which can be applied to the base station of wireless local area network (WLAN). The system integration enables the selection of antenna patterns. This project consists of three major parts. The first part is to evolve an antenna with a significant height into a low-profile one. The second part is to apply the proposed antenna to a WLAN base station. The directivity of the antenna is enhanced. Conventionally, the antenna aiming to this application depicts an omni-directional pattern, despite the fact that the radiating power is illuminated equally and uniformly in the horizontal plane. However, we provide an effective solution which makes use of the energy more efficiently. Finally, the third part is to control the antenna pattern using microprocessor. We use Arduino to control the diode. In this way, the radiating power can be focused on a certain direction.
