This paper proposes a transparent transmitarray for Millimeter Wave (mmWave) of 5G mobile communication systems. For the same reason, the transmitarray is like the optical lens to improve the gain and directivity of the feed antenna. The structure design by meshed conductor makes the transmitarray transparent. In the frequency band 2 (Frequency Range, FR2) of the 5G mobile communication, the base station antenna is required to have high gain and high directivity. Comparing with the design of the antenna array, lens and reflector antenna, the transmitarray is low-profile and high-gain. The design of optically transparent antenna is mainly divided into two forms: transparent conductor film and meshed conductor. Compared with the transparent conductor film, the design of meshed conductor not only have the characteristics of optical transparency, but also have the conductivity of the conductors.
In this study, the design of transparent transmitarray composed of meshed structurs of 8-unit cells. By simulating the fully coated transmitarray and analyze the aperture efficiency, we can get the prediction performance of meshed transmitarray. Finally, we design a high directivity and high gain antenna with 37.5 dBi gain.
